What About These Summer Travel Possibilities?
If you are like me, you are watching your travel budget carefully, asking where you can go that’s interesting but affordable. Southern California would be a good possibility for your summer travel planning. It’s got the beaches, theme parks, roller coasters, Hollywood and lots more.
Hawaii would be another option. Although those warm beaches are hard to resist, there’s not as much variety in vacation options as California. There’s a friendly comparison between vacations in California vs. Hawaii at the SoCal Vacation Guru that you might find interesting. In Southern California you don’t need to worry as much about underwater rocks; also, the humidity is generally lower and the sunshine less intimidating. As we noted, the Hawaiian waters are warmer, but in the middle of summer, the cooler California water can be more invigorating.
Of course, the vegetation in Hawaii is often magnificent and the local culture adds much to the experience. On the other hand, there are many different cultures to be experienced in the Southern California melting pot.
The beach is not the only attraction in Southern California. There are a half-dozen major theme parks to be visited. You could spend a week checking out the seven top-notch theme parks between San Diego and Los Angeles County. For lovers of roller coasters, Knott’s Berry Farm and Six Flags Magic Mountain are definitely places to visit if possible. Both offer many coasters and other fun rides. You won’t find as many true thrill rides at Disneyland as at the other parks, although Space Mountain and the Matterhorn Bobsleds certainly qualify.
There aren’t many roller coasters to be found in Hawaii, unless you consider wintertime surfing to qualify in that category. California is probably a more budget-friendly summer travel option, but now and then you really do need to get over to Hawaii.
