Renewable Energy Is The Only Way
The previous President of the United States is quoted as having said that he “believes in global warming as much as [he] believes in Bigfoot.” And this in the face of overwhelming scientific evidence that the global warming is quite real. The former President G.W. Bush seems to have had a rather low belief in science; indeed he appears to have derived his belief system from totally different sources.
Fortunately, the White House is now run by Mr. Barack Obama. He has made it very clear that the environmental issues from now on will be on high priority, and he has appointed some very competent people to take on these challenges.
This change of policy was long overdue. The US. is one of the worst countries in the world regarding carbon dioxide emissions, and this has to change.
But let us not put all the responsibility on the shoulders of the Government. There are many things we can do ourselves to save the environment, Actually, you could even save money doing it!
What I am talking about is for instance cheap solar panels. “What”, you say, “solar panels are definitely not cheap!” To which I answer: They were quite expensive some years ago but not nowadays.
Technology has advanced to the point where photovoltaic panels can be manufactured by spraying a semi-conducting solar absorber material on rolls of metal foil, kind of like the process of printing newspapers! So, if you put up solar panels on your home, then they are likely to pay for themselves really quickly. Yes, soon you can enjoy free electricity straight from the Sun.
Solar panels are expected to last more than twenty years with little or no maintainance. Very unlike that utility bill you have to pay each and every month.
Indeed, there are also other sources of clean and renewable energy. How about setting up a home wind turbine for example? Such a little generator can provide a surprising amount of electric energy if placed in a windy spot.
So, you see that it is not just the Government’s responsibility to tackle the global warming – you and I can do things also and even save money doing them.
